Other Physical Surroundings
This may be a short Chronicle (it turns out it isn’t), but I feel compelled to put one up so as not to establish the bad habit of skipping. They say it only takes like 6 weeks to establish a habit, good or bad, and I’ve missed two weeks, although not consecutive, so maybe I might still be safe, but I really wanted a sentance with a lot of conjunctions, and this seemed the best way to do it.
I disappeared for an entire day from Friday afternoon to Saturday. At least that was what happened from my dormmates’ perspective… From my perspective, I actually did not disappear, I merely traveled away from campus. I went to a Harvest slumber party, where I ate a lot, described my perfect date, played Taboo, declined some “Spam-n-rice”, drew a treasure map for a Twizzler in the middle of the floor, slept fitfully (thanks to a cuckoo clock and freezing temperatures), ate a waffle, and played percussion with both an egg and a plum. I didn’t cease to exist, just because I “wasn’t there.” You see, it all depends on how you define “there” - webtser defines it as “in or at that place.” This further forces you to define “that place.” Combining the definition for “that” and “place” yields “the physical surroundings indicated, mentioned, or understood from the situation.” So now we see the problem: my dormmates can only understand things in the context of this campus; to them, there is nothing beyond - similar to how many people in ancient times believed the earth was all there was - you could try and explain Venus, and how it is very hot and toxic there, and all you would get is a blank stare. Ok, I think things are sufficiently clear now.
Saturday, I gave out approximately 30 resumes at a engineering oriented job fair. This was my first experience making and giving out a resume, so I’m curious if anyone will be interested in my minimal experience. I would like to work for Quark, both for the obvious reason (cool name), and because they are located in my home state, Colorado, and do C++/Java development. But I think with Intel, Apple, and Microsoft fighting over me, it’ll be hard to compete…
I played ultimate frisbee intramurals Sunday morning, and we won 15-5. This was after we had a 12-1 lead, and the other team added a fresh player, making it 8 on 7 (we did not feel threatened). It was great fun, especially outjumping tall guys to come down with the disc. I will continue to post the results of our games, so you can see our MARCH to victory!
I am now going to retrieve my pictures from the road trip, I hope they came out well, especially the ones I took my life into my hands to capture. I have an incredible amount of work to do, so consider this a written self-pep talk. GO GO GO! You can dooo eet!
Quote of the week:
“No, we aren’t looking for summer interns, but we can take your resume and file it in case something comes up…”
Translation: “We have a shredder under this table, so if you feel you need to give us something, we can make short work of it…”
